Julien Calot
A rising talent on the art scene, Julien Calot is a young French artist born in 1982. The artist paints movement. In this way, he emphasises the interaction between
individuals and the vital force of the life that springs up. Deeply humanistic, he paints the era in which he lives, in all its exuberance and madness. Originally
from La Rochelle, and passionate about surfing and the sea, Julien Calot’s painting plays with the colourful codes of “surf culture”: bright colours,
the dynamics of bodies and faces, the symbiosis with nature. He mixes styles and references borrowed from classical painting and Aboriginal art while surfing on a
self-portrait of his generation. The latter is in fact nourished by pop art, rock, advertising, street art and comics.
Julien Calot’s works reveal a rhythmic and chaotic figuration. It echoes both the primitive arts and the urban energy that drives the artist.
The artist offers a vision of a colourful, fiery and energetic existence immersed in the chaotic world of city noise and urban flows: a resolutely contemporary world.
At the same time, he explores different forms of artistic creation: writing, music, video and photography.
