With The Roots, Jordane Saget enters into dialogue with one of Vincent van Gogh’s final works, painted in Auvers-sur-Oise in July 1890. In this almost abstract composition, trunks, roots and vegetation intertwine until all sense of perspective begins to dissolve, transforming nature into a vibrant network of lines and colours.
Jordane Saget draws on this organic profusion and sense of interweaving. His lines cross, extend and branch out like an underground network, while greens, ochres, blues and earthy tones echo the natural world.
Here, the reference to roots takes on a dual meaning: the very real roots of the trees of Auvers-sur-Oise, but also those that connect artists, eras and visual languages. The motif becomes a living structure, both anchored and in motion, evoking transmission, growth and continuity.
Here again, Jordane Saget does not reproduce Van Gogh’s forms or composition. Rather, he carries their energy forward through his own visual vocabulary, transforming the line into a living connection between memory and contemporary creation.
