Shepard Fairey is an American artist born in 1970 in Charleston, South Carolina. He is best known for his political and social posters, as well as for his clothing brand, OBEY Clothing.

Fairey began his artistic career at the age of 14 by creating graffiti in his hometown. He then studied at the University of Rhode Island where he earned a degree in visual arts. It was there that he created his first poster for the 1988 presidential campaign of André Dukakis.

In 1999, Fairey created the “Andre the Giant Has a Posse” poster, which quickly gained popularity. The poster was distributed worldwide, making Fairey a well-known street artist in the artistic community.

In 2008, Fairey created the “Hope” poster for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. The poster quickly became a symbol of the campaign and was widely reproduced on t-shirts, stickers, and other merchandise.

In 2001, Fairey founded the OBEY Clothing brand, which quickly became one of the most popular streetwear brands in the United States.
